Meet Weezie founders, Liz Eichholz & Lindsey Johnson

For those of us who have an affinity for hotel bathrobes, all this time at home is a struggle. We’re here to tell you that the hotel luxury can be brought right to your house with Weezie towels. Weezie towels are like wrapping yourself in a cloud— and did we mention they’re customizable? You may be thinking about those towels in your bathroom and how they were once soft (sorta), but now, not so much. We’re here to tell you that there’s no time like the present for an upgrade.

Weezie founders Liz Eichholz and Lindsey Johnson were committed to making a higher quality bath towels through a patented Japanese spin technology, designed for higher absorbancy, durability, and made of 100% organic long-staple cotton. They thought of everything, even a built-in hook. Plus, Weezie towels are still more affordable than any other luxury towels on the market, and they’re easy on the eyes - real easy. In fact, we can’t help but smile every time we look at ours.

Q: We’ll be honest, our team is kind of obsessed with Weezie towels. Tell us everything we need to know about them!

Thank you!! We launched Weezie aiming to reinvent modern luxury towels. Liz first thought of the idea for Weezie when shopping for towels for her wedding registry.  She was overwhelmed by the endless options and confusing jargon, and disappointed by the limited customization options and archaic embroidery processes.  What should have been a joyful purchase experience instead became an annoying chore!

Liz: I approached Lindsey with my idea to fill the void in the market: a go-to, high-quality towel. The more people we talked to, the more we realized this was a valid need - so many consumers disliked their towels!  Fast forward, countless hours of consumer research and months of product development later, we launched Weezie in October 2018.  Last summer, we expanded our collection to include women’s robes, and have so many exciting plans in the works for the rest of 2020 and beyond.

There are a lot of reasons to love Weezie (and if you don’t believe us check out their Instagram feed). But let’s talk about the towels themselves and why they should be staples in our bathroom.

Through our extensive research, we found that consumers prioritize softness, absorbency, and aesthetics in their bath towels. First and foremost, Weezie towels are made from the best of the best materials: 100% long-staple organic and OEKO-TEX®  certified cotton. Our towels are made in a family-owned factory in Portugal using a patented Japanese spinning technology to spin air into each and every fiber, allowing maximum softness and absorbency.  Even better: Weezie towels get softer and fluffier with every wash! This is a long way to say: we obsessed over the quality so our customers don’t have to!

Women's Long Robe, $175

We prioritized creating a towel that is as beautiful hanging in your bathroom as it is functional.  We rounded the edge of the towel for an elevated look, added a convenient drying hook, and selected a range of piping colors and embroidery styles so customers can create a towel unique to their personal style.

We saw that you launched patterned robes and they look pretty phenomenal. Give us the lowdown!

Since the beginning, we dreamed of offering colorful, patterned robes! We felt it the perfect opportunity to put a playful spin on our classic long and short white robes. Like all Weezie items, we carefully considered every detail, from the weight of the terry (not too heavy/not too light), to attaching the tie and adding buttons (the long robe), and nixing the collar (the short robe).

We launched the patterned collection in light blue (our most popular piping color!) in several prints to appeal to a variety of styles. We polled our customers and ultimately landed on a block print floral (Tullie), a geometric (Gigi), and two stripes (Parker Blue and Parker White)! We’ve been thrilled by the feedback so far and look forward to introducing more prints and colorways in the future.

Behind the scenes: Take us inside the Weezie (virtual) walls. What’s it like to be on the team?

Our team is based in Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia.  Liz and our Creative, Social, and Product teams call Savannah home, while the rest (Operations, CX, Marketing) are with Lindsey in Atlanta. We currently have nearly 25 employees, 15 of which support our embroidery & fulfillment operations in our Savannah warehouse.

Piped Edge Bath Sheet, $78

In building Weezie culture, we’ve always prioritized openness and transparency, and over the past few months, we’ve really seen this manifest as we adjust to new ways of working.  We’re constantly on Slack, taking our calls over Google Hangouts, and enjoying virtual cocktail hours on Thursdays! We’re so fortunate to have established this foundation before turning to a virtual work environment in which communication is of utmost importance.

We hear that you’ve welcomed a new family member recently. Congrats! How has it been running a company as a first-time founder and becoming a new mom?

Lindsey: Thank you! The past two months have certainly been a whirlwind. I gave birth to my daughter, Miller, in early March in New York City.  In the weeks leading up to my maternity leave, I worked with the team to set goals and solidify plans for my absence.  Of course, all such plans were out the window with the onset of coronavirus, as we shifted focus from staying profitable to staying afloat (I wrote a full blog post on this very topic here!)

The truth is, it was never going to be easy, and I’m grateful for the support of a wonderful team and family that have made the balancing act much more feasible! Practically speaking, I’m carving out time for my family, blocking out hours here and there to be with my daughter uninterrupted (though my team knows I can always be reached if something urgent pops up!)

What’s next for Weezie? We’re envisioning more fluffy goodness coming our way.

Piped Edge Bath Towel, $58

While we can’t give away all our secrets, our goal is to continue to bring more moments of delight and everyday luxury to our customers - from physical product to brand touchpoints and everything in between. One thing we can clue you in on: Liz is giving birth any day now, and having two new babies around here just might have been the inspiration we needed for a new category launch...

Last question. We talk about the internet’s best brands (and we trust that you’ve tried a few). So, we want to know which ones are your favorite, and why.

Lindsey: I’m looking forward to our first summer with Miller and can’t wait to outfit her in a Minnow swimsuit!

Liz: My friend just launched an allergy-free protein bar company, Kubeba Life. My daughter has an egg allergy and it’s been so nice to have a bar that everyone in my family loves and can safely snack on!
